Key Concepts

In DataGuard CPM, several key concepts help ensure that your data collection practices are compliant with regulations like GDPR and aligned with user expectations. Understanding these concepts is crucial for configuring the platform effectively.

Citizens

In the CPM platform, a Citizen is any individual whose data is processed and whose consent is managed. While we refer to them as Citizens, you may know them as data subjects, users, or by another term. Each Citizen is uniquely identified in the platform using an identifier of your choice, ensuring seamless integration with your existing systems.

Consent Purposes

Purposes refer to the specific reasons for which you are collecting, processing, or using personal data. Each purpose defines the intent behind data collection, such as marketing communications, service improvement, or legal compliance. In the platform, you’ll configure purposes to clearly outline the 'Why' behind data usage, ensuring that your users understand how their data will be used. Linking these purposes to specific communication channels helps provide transparency and builds trust.

Lawful Basis

A lawful basis is the legal justification required under GDPR and similar regulations to process personal data. There are six lawful bases for processing, including consent, contract, legal obligation, vital interests, public interest, and legitimate interest. Each purpose you configure in the platform must be associated with an appropriate lawful basis, ensuring that data processing is legally justified. This association is a critical component of maintaining compliance and transparency.

Preferences

Preferences represent the choices users make about how they want to interact with your organization. These preferences can include communication frequency, preferred channels (e.g., email, SMS, app notifications), and topics of interest. Capturing and managing preferences allows you to personalize user experiences, tailor marketing efforts, and increase engagement. The platform’s Preference Configuration Interface makes it easy to create and manage these options, enabling a more customized and user-centric approach to communication.

Privacy Policies

When collecting consent, it is a legal requirement to provide a link to the currently active privacy policy. DataGuard CPM streamlines this process by allowing organisations to manage privacy policies within the platform, either by linking to a hosted URL or uploading documents. The platform's versioning system enables legal teams to easily update privacy policies across all capture points through the UI, ensuring compliance and consistency.
