Duplicating Citizens

Duplicating Citizens, also referred to as "splitting" Citizens, is a feature in DataGuard CPM that allows you to create a copy of a Citizen's consent and preference history. This process is essentially the opposite of merging and is useful when you need to separate records that were previously combined or if you require identical records for different purposes.

How Duplicating Works

  • Copying History: When you duplicate a Citizen, all of the consent and preference history from the primary Citizen is copied onto either an existing Citizen or a newly created one. This also means that the current state, including active permissions and preferences, is duplicated onto the new or existing record.

  • Accidental Merge Recovery: This feature can be particularly useful if a merge was performed by accident. While duplicating does not technically revert a merge, it allows you to create a separate record that contains the same information as the original, allowing you to partially recover from the mistake.

Implementating Duplication

  • API-Only Process: Like merging, duplicating Citizens can only be performed via the API.

Duplicating Citizens is a valuable tool for managing and correcting data within DataGuard CPM. By creating an identical copy of a Citizen's history and current state, it offers a way to rectify accidental merges or to manage records in cases where identical data is needed in multiple places. However, it's important to note that duplicating is not a true reversal of merging but rather a method to create an identical record.
