Preference Configuration

Preference Configuration in DataGuard CPM defines the choice available for Citizens to personalise their interactions with your organisation. Unlike Permissions, which are tied to legal bases for data processing, Preferences allow Citizens to tailor their experience according to their personal interests and communication preferences.

What Are Preferences?

  • User-Centric Choices: Preferences enable Citizens to specify how they want to interact with your organisation. For example, a preference could allow a user to choose which topics they would like to receive information about, or how frequently they wish to be contacted.

  • Enhancing User Engagement: By allowing users to define their preferences, you increase the likelihood of engagement. Citizens are more likely to interact with content they find relevant and are less likely to unsubscribe due to frustration with irrelevant or excessive communication. This, in turn, can lead to higher opt-in rates and better retention of consent over time.

  • Integration Across Platforms: Preferences can be managed and interacted with in all the same ways as Permissions. This includes through the Citizens UI, widgets, and integrations. Whether updating preferences directly in the UI or through an integrated system, the process is consistent and user-friendly.

Setting Up Preferences

  • Configuration: Preference Configuration is managed in the Admin section of the CPM UI. Here, administrators can define the available preferences.

  • Single Choice vs. Multi Choice: Preferences can be configured as either "single choice" or "multi choice":

    • Single Choice: The Citizen can select only one option from the available choices. This is useful for preferences where only one option is applicable, such as selecting a contact frequency.
    • Multi Choice: The Citizen can select more than one option from the available choices. This is ideal for preferences like selecting topics of interest.

Summary

Preference Configuration is a powerful tool that helps personalise the user experience, leading to higher engagement and satisfaction. By setting up and managing preferences effectively, your organisation can ensure that Citizens feel in control of their interactions, which in turn supports higher opt-in rates and better retention. All of this can be easily managed through the Admin section of the CPM UI, with flexible options for both single and multi-choice preferences.
